AMA Southern Open Championships. April 10th 2016- Maidstone, Kent

The #JKGKarate squad were back in competition today at the AMA Southern Open championships.

The squad consisted of John Gardiner, Helen Marsh, Megan Marsh, Tiziana Lawrence, Amy Marsh and Sebastian Lambert. 

First up were the girls Megan and Amy in the Pairs kata event where they reached the final 6 but finished just outside the medal positions.

First Aid Course, 9th April

We were invited to attend a course on CPR and using a defibrillator (which they now have at our westcliff venue) by St Peter’s Church. 

The course was very interesting and provided usual information.

Grading – Brentwood March 2016

JKG Karate held our first grading at the new Brentwood dojo (running since late last year) and it was a success.

All the students were either grading for the first time or grading under JKG Karate for the first time and all stepped up their level for the occasion. 

For a relatively short time since the children began training they have made great progress and now have a better idea of where they need to improve from now on.

Competition Rules Seminar – JKG Karate Westcliff Dojo – March 2016

On Saturday 19th March JKG Karate hosted a competition rules seminar, presented by Helen Marsh (JKG assistant instructor, national level referee). 

The seminar covered the rules of both disciplines of karate competition; kata and kumite and explained these rules and how they impact the competitors themselves, the referees and officials and also the parents and supporters. 

Point scoring technique demonstrations were given competently by junior members Aaron Whitehouse and Matthew Rumsey.

Toyakwai East England Open Championships – March 2016

A small #JKGKarate squad of 4 made the short journey to Clacton to compete in the Toyakwai East England Open, our second championship of the year as a squad. 

The 4 of them managed to win 6 trophies between them, 1 Gold, 2 Silvers and 3 Bronze. 

More importantly than the results however is that each one of them showed a clear improvement from the last event in January, this is what it’s about at the moment.
