The #JKGKarate squad joined up with the WUKO-GB team to compete at the ESKF British open championships on April 30th at the University of East London Sportsdock.
With many nations in attendance the event was of a high standard, as it was last year.
We had Amy Marsh, Sebastian Lambert, Toby Fane, Helen Marsh and John Gardiner aiming for medal positions.
Amy and Toby both showed improvement but fell short of a medal position this time.
Sebastian Lambert in a very large kumite category had a first round bye, then won his second round with a clear 4-0 placing him in the quarter finals, next he put on another great display of scoring texhniques as he won this match 4-1. Now in the semi final he faced an older and larger boy who managed to get the better of Sebastian and won the fight 4-2. A well earned semi final position and the bronze medal for Sebastian in a very large group.
Helen Marsh competing in the veterans female kata performed a clean Gojushiho Dai kata and joint for the first place, after a tie break she had to settle for the silver medal in a strong field. An improvement on last years bronze medal from her.
John Gardiner competing in the men’s senior kata finished the opening round in joint first with his Polish counterpart, both with a clear 0.5 lead on second place, leaving it to the final round to decide the winner. The final saw 8 competitors through to decide the medals, John and the Polish competitor both performed Unsu kata with John taking the win with a 0.2 lead, clinching the Gold medal for the second time consecutively at this event.
The #JKGKarate squad finished the day with a bronze, silver and gold medal at this high level event, an excellent result again from the squad.Share
