JKG Karate Class Instructors
Sensei John Gardiner, 3rd Dan
The Chief instructor of JKG Karate and assistant national kata instructor of the England Karate Team. Sensei John Gardiner has numerous titles to his name and has competed at the highest level. He has represented the England national team in both the EKF European Championships and WKF World Championships, as both part of the Kata team and also in the Individual Kata position, as well as competing in the Karate1 Premier League across Europe.
John began his Karate training in the Shotokan style, achieving his 1st Dan Black Belt in 2004, before moving to Ishinryu in 2005 to concentrate on achieving his goal of one day representing England internationally. This is where he was awarded his 3rd Dan (bypassing 2nd Dan) by Sensei Ticky Donovan OBE 9th Dan in 2010.
John is also a BA (hons) Business graduate from the University of Essex, as well as a qualified level 2 fitness instructor and ‘Fit2Fite’ Instructor.

Assistant Instructor, Helen Marsh, 2nd Dan
Helen started training in karate in 1979, in Wado Ryu, where she competed in both kumite and kata. After an injury she was forced to stop training, but returned back to it in 2009 after taking her daughter to a class, and realising what she had missed. Since then Helen has obtained her 1st Dan black belt in May 2013 and her 2nd Dan in June 2015. As an adult she has continued to compete in both kumite and kata, both in the UK and Italy. In 2014 she qualified as a judge for the English Karate Federation in both Kata and Kumite, where she judged many competitions.
Helen is also a qualified ‘Fit2Fite’ instructor, and a BMUS (Hons) Bachelor of music graduate, with a diploma in financial services.
