At JKG Karate we pride ourselves in high quality professional coaching and the upholding of high standards with a welcoming and inclusive environment.
Established in 2011 we have continued to innovate and develop our methods to bring out the best in our members.
Our instructors are certified by the BMABA (British Martial Arts and Boxing Association) and hold a minimum of the Level 1 coaching certificate.
Alongside our main classes, we also run classes specifically tailored to children and teenagers with special educational needs and disabilities, having also worked closely with local SEN schools delivering Karate as part of the PE syllabus for over 5 years.
Sensei John Gardiner is the founder and chief instructor of JKG Karate, he is the former EKF England assistant national coach. Having started his training at the age of 12 he achieved his 1st Dan black belt in 2004 under an examination conducted by Sensei Masao Kawasoe from Japan. Sensei Ticky Donovan, former England coach) awarded John his 3rd Dan black belt, bypassing 2nd in 2010, an achievement shared by no one else.
In September 2021 John undertook and passed an examination for his 4th Dan under Sensei Ady Gray 6th Dan Chief Instructor of BSKA and Sensei Colin Smith BSKA Dan grade assessor.
Former British Champion and England team member from 2007 in the under 21 England team through to 2019 as a Senior receiving many England call ups during his competitive career. Sensei John also won the FSKA World Shotokan Championships in 2018 and won a bronze medal in the WSF World championships in 2018 in Istanbul.
Certified as an instructor by the BMABA, John also holds a BA (hons) degree in Business and is also a certified fitness instructor.
